Top Ten Scenes of the West Lake-Breeze-ruffled Lotus at Crooked Courtyard
This scene, situated at the northwest corner of the West Lake, and is always well-known for its lake view and lotus view. According to the records, there was a royal brewery beside Hongchun Bridge in Song Dynasty. Every time the warm southerly breeze at summer blows up, the fragrance of lotus and wine overflows everywhere and is ravishing, which is called as “lotus breeze in the brewery yard”. In the Qing Dynasty, the brewery was closed off. Emperor Kangxi changed the character “麯” into “曲” and the “lotus breeze” into “breeze-ruffled lotus”. Now the Breeze-ruffled Lotus at Crooked Courtyard scenic spot is extended to a larger scale, and it has become a large garden that covers an area of more than 420 mu and takes lotus culture and wine culture as its theme. The whole garden is divided into five scenic spots, respectively Yue Lake, Zhusu Garden, Breeze Lotus, Crooked Courtyard and Binhu Jungle. Inside the garden, the pavilions, platforms, buildings and terraced house are elegantly laid out, and the lotus pool, covering an area of about 38 mu, is planted with many precious and rare lotus species, such as red lotus, white lotus, Chongtai lotus, Sajin lotus and Twin lotus, and it has become a perfect place for appreciating lotuses in China.
